CARE Yemen Factsheet - January 2023

factsheet

The war in Yemen is approaching its eighth year and the country remains one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises. In 2022, 23.5 million people (66 percent of the population) were estimated to need humanitarian assistance; with 17.9 million people being in acute need. A collapsing economy and often non-existent public services mean that millions struggle to access food, water, education, and healthcare. This dire situation has been exacerbated by the global COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters. CARE works to respond to emergencies, strengthen resilience, and ensure voices of the most vulnerable are heard. Across 14 governorates in Yemen, by end of September 2022, CARE reached 2.3 million people with food security and livelihoods, WASH, reproductive health, women’s economic empowerment, and education programs.
